Sourcing a Generation of Community-Based Investment

Thriving Cities Group's Social Impact Exchange is a web platform that enables users to make well-informed decisions about how to positively impact the health of their city. It allows users to both leverage expert opinion data on which actions and programs have the greatest effect on a city’s health indicators, and interact with real-time resident feedback on which issues residents feel are most pressing.

We are currently building and piloting the first localized Social Impact Exchange in Memphis, TN in partnership with the University of Memphis. Contact Charlie Henderson to learn more.

Equipping a Generation with Tools for Shared Learning and Common Action

Thriving Cities Group's Indicator Explorer is a data discernment tool that is built on a database comprised of over 3,000 indicators from more than 100 community indicator projects from across the country. This tool highlights for users the leading indicators in various fields, those currently backed by the strongest academic research, and those most frequently employed in communities.

This is just the first version. We are currently at work building a 2.0 version of Indicator Explorer, which will further illuminate the connections between indicators, and how systems and programmatic indicators relate to one another. Contact Megan Juelfs to learn more.

Cultivating Human Ecologies by Fostering the Civic Capacity of Communities

Thriving Cities Group's Civic Design Cycle is a community engagement and empowerment strategy that aims to build the civic capacity communities. It involves holistically assessing a community to identify resident-articulated needs, building and amplifying the requisite civic infrastructure of a community to steward the process of addressing these resident-articulated needs, working collaboratively and creatively to develop investable opportunities and solutions to these needs, and evaluating with all stakeholders of a community the social impact of this process and the resultant programs or solutions.

Since January 2017, Thriving Cities Group has been working to engage residents and stakeholders of Richmond’s Jefferson Davis Corridor through a project called RVA Thrives to build the Corridor's civic capacity. Contact Lea Whitehurst-Gibson to learn more.

Midwifing a New Paradigm of Civic Thought and Practice

Thriving Cities Group's Thriving Cities Labs form a growing national network of university-community partnerships, each of which conducts research within and across multiple fields bridging theory and practice.

One such lab is located at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia. Contact Josh Yates to learn more.
